INTRODUCTION: This book aims to make a contribution to comparative policy analysis (CPA) by linking different methodological approaches with the conceptual background and theories of the policy process and policy analysis operational approaches. It addresses the following questions: What is CPA? What is it for? How can it be conducted in a valid and reliable manner? In the context of globalised communication and economic trade, the ever-growing mobility of people, and connections between domestic and international policy institutions, understanding the similarities and differences in policies and policy-making becomes increasingly important in academia and government alike. Books such as The Routledge Handbook on Comparative Policy Analysis, for instance, have presented a dialogue among scholars about various aspects of the subject. Others, such as The Classics of Comparative Policy Analysis present mostly analyses of international cases related to differences or similarities between or within regions, disciplines, and administrative contexts. This book is a companion to The Handbook of Research Methods and Applications in Comparative Policy Analysis. The title, Comparative Policy Analysis: From Research to Practice, introduces the idea of how comparative public policy research-based universals have translated into a tool that can foster policy problem-solving, policy design, and policy-making. It seeks to contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the field in general, and for the twenty-first century in particular, its origins, as well as the theories and methodologies that enable the evolution of CPA as a valid and reliable domain in support of more effective policy-making.
