This special issue seeks to understand national and subnational policy responses to the pandemic crisis across contexts and examine the outcomes of those policies in the short and predictable longer terms. The editors are interested in which ways the COVID-19 pandemic crisis has been defined and handled as well as the lessons that can be drawn across different economic, social, and institutional contexts. We encourage international comparative perspectives.Authors are invited to address the following topics:Health policy responses in different national systems;Social policy and social equity responses in different national systems;Economic and fiscal policy responses in different national systems;Policy responses under crisis and their effects on privacy and civic freedom;Policy responses under crisis and their social and economic effects;Policy ripple effects such as climate change, or others;The role of scientific expertise, evidence and modeling, in shaping policy responses in different national systems;The role of public opinion on agenda setting;Political interference in shaping policy responses in different national systems;Differences in policy responses between federal and unitary systems;The ethics of policy responses within and among nations.We acknowledge that the timelines are rather short, but we trust that you can see your publication’s benefit in terms of relevance.Additional benefits are priority slotting of the special issue as soon as 2021 and one month Free Access on the Special Issue’s publication.
